Love and Anarchy / Film d’amore e d’anarchia (1973), directed by Lina Wertmüller, is a fierce and tender political film set in Fascist Italy of the 1930s. Mixing melodrama, dark humour and tragedy, it follows Tunin, an anarchist who plans to assassinate Mussolini, and his unexpected love affair with Salomè, a sex worker who hides, protects and gradually transforms him.
Through their intense and fragile relationship, the film explores how desire, intimacy and care collide with political commitment and historical violence. Wertmüller refuses heroic certainties, revolution is portrayed as messy, contradictory and deeply human, shaped as much by fear and longing as by courage.
This is a film about resistance not as a slogan but as lived experience full of contradictions, sacrifices and moments of unexpected tenderness. A radical, emotional and unforgettable work that remains painfully relevant in times of authoritarianism and rising repression.
We gather for a film that insists on love, revolt and human connection in the darkest of times.
Join us for a collective screening and discussion.
